Smart Kids

My weekends are normally spend at home relaxing but this weekend, 6-8 April 2007, I somehow had a different plan for my weekend. Shirley was given a job in the Smart Kids Event and she asked me if I would like to work during the event. Thinking of doing something different for a change, I agreed to it.

On Friday morning, me, Guoy and Shirley took the 6.30am KTM to Putra. We reached there bout 7.45am. It was real early and we were to be in PWTC by 8.30am to report in. Since we left without breakfast, we went looking for a place to eat our breakfast and wait for Merv to arrive. It was bout 8am when McDonalds opened and we went in and have our McDonalds breakfast =) We each ordered a Big Breakfast.

At 8.30am, we went to PWTC secretary room to report for work. It was then we met Mark. He is our so-called boss for we are under him for our duty. Our real boss is another person =) Mark then brief us on our job. We are
to hand
out
survey forms for the visitors to filled and ask them to take the form to our booth to do a lucky draw. It may sounds easy but it was hell. We have to reach a quota of 5000 surveys in 3 days. Stress but we are all fired up. Then we met another girl, her name is May and she was in our team to hand out survey forms on the lower floor. There are another 3 girls who are handling the upper floor.

On the first day, we manage to get 700++ surveys. We had some pushback but we did our best. While we were waiting for our briefing before we go home, we overheard some conversation which wasn't nice to hear at all. We ignore it and waited till briefing starts to discuss the problems we faced for the days event. It was after that, we met Joel and Joanna. It was a surprise for me to see them but not to Shirley for she knew they were cooperating for organizing the event.

On the second day we decided to drive there instead. We ordered McDonalds breakfast from McDonalds drive-thru in Subang and ate along the way. When we reach there, we met up with the others and we plan our strategies on how to get more surveys for the day. This time, we push harder to get more survey forms to be filled. We were so into it that we didn't realize time. It was not until Guoy told us to hurry and take our lunch for food was finishing only did we knew it was lunch time. When me and Shirley went for our lunch break,
there was no food left.
We had to wait for them to bring in more food. How on earth can there be shortage of food? No one knows. We continued working till closing time. At the end of the day, we collected 1200++ surveys. We are still 3000 surveys behind our target.

As usual, we have our briefing on how and what to do on the last day to push harder to meet our target. After briefing, we had to stay back to help stick stickers. We were very efficient. We were fast. We were working faster than the sticker cutters and the others who were sticking stickers. Once finish, me, Guoy, Shirley, Merv, Mark and Vincent (another of our so-called boss) head for supper in SS2. We relax a bit and then head home to prepare for the battle on the last day.

On the last day, when we arrived there, we quickly took the forms and pass out to visitors who are there queueing to go into the fair. Since they are bored waiting, it is a good time to pass them forms and let them know bout the lucky draw. Guoy stayed down stairs informing the visitors bout the lucky draw and pass them the forms while the others went to set up booth. The response was fantastic. We had 4 other people helping us for that day also. When the doors to the fair was opened, there was a sudden rush to the booth to do the lucky draw. I had to go back to help at the booth for they can't manage the sudden rush. It was hectic the first 3 hours straight.

The rush continued till evening when it slowed down. By then we have hit more than yesterday's figure but we are worried we can't make 5000 surveys and we continue to approach visitors to do surveys. It was the busiest day and the most hectic day. At the end of the day, we manage to collect nearly 2000 surveys which gave us the total of 3600++ surveys collected in 3 days. We didn't hit target but we had some fun along the way.

We collected our pay at the end of the day and we went out for our supper in Williams. It was only me, Guoy, Shirley, Mark, Vincent and Stephen (another head) who went for supper. Merv went home for he stayed over at my place the other night for it would be too late when he reach home after overtime. During our supper, we talk and joke. We make fun of each other for being blur for we work hard the pass 3 days and we are all lack of rest. After a nice meal, we head home.

It is a memorable experience. I wish I can work with them again one day.
