Day 3 in Kuching

Today I woke up bout 9am and had a butter cake before going out. The plan for the day is to get a baby stroller for Brenda. The sky was grey when we left bout 10am plus. Our first stop for the day is at Anakku to get the baby stroller.

We were there for quite a while as Merlye has to choose the right one and wait for them to fix the new one. Unfortunately, the store person fix up a rejected one without realising. We only realise it when Merlye tested it and found that the button to compress the stroller isn't working.

They then fix another one and thank goodness it is working fine other than the sponge at the handle being torn. Its ok for it isn't that visible and there are ways to hide the ugly part. Merlye wanted to change another unit but that was the last one available besides the display set.

Once settle with the stroller, we went groceries shopping in Teck Kong. It is a small supermarket. We were there for quite a while too for there are so many things there that attract us for it is cheap. I can't believe that I nearly bought the entire shop but I have to control as I have to carry them back to West Malaysia.

I bought some cute tapes to do decorations for cards and other things. The shocking part is I bought 4 plates to be brought home. There are plastic plates with floral design and cost only 99 cents. I just can't resist it. Merlye on the other hand has to shop for things to do a photo album for Brenda and also other daily things to be used at home.

After a happy enjoyment time, it was lunch time and we head off to have lunch. Lunch was simple but delicious. When we reached the shop, I realise that all the cars park there do not park in one parking lot but two parking lot. What I know is there is no rules for driving. Since the place we head for lunch is a popular place, parking was a problem but my dear friend, Merlye is good at parking ^_^ After staying in Kuching for about a year, she inherited their trades. She did double parking -_-"

Once the car is park, we went into the shop and ordered our lunch. We had curry rice with chicken, pork, egg and bittergout with egg. I was surprise as the bittergout isn't bitter and it was delicious. The curry is also fantastic. I can not get that curry back in Kuala Lumpur. After feeling content, we head off to Indian street to get cloth.

Merlye bought 2 beautiful cloth to be used as a baby carrier. If you are wondering what sort of baby carrier, it is a sarong where you tie a sarong over your shoulder and carry the baby. Once done with that, we went to Parkson to get a toy for Brenda.

While heading to Parkson, I saw this cute "cats" at a area and was tempted to take a picture there. After parking in Parkson, we head off to get the musical toy for Brenda first then walk out to take a picture with the cats. I feel embarass for no one was taking their picture there besides me. I have to have a picture with cats since I went to Kuching ^_^

Once done there, we went to buy some pastries back for tea. After getting some pastries, we drop in to the hospital where Brenda was born as Merlye has to collect her maternity leave slip to hand in to her boss. Once the MC is collected, we went to the phamarcy to buy some iron sodium tablets (I think) before we head back home.

It was a tiring day as we were running about. When we reach home, we change the extension plug that was not working in her kitchen with the new one we just bought and arrange the things that Merlye bought home. We than relax at home till Greoffrey came home. When he came home, it was dinner time.

Merlye's mother-in-law cooked dinner and it was delicious and filling. I can't imagine how full I feel. She also gave me some tips on how to cook and keep a healthy life-style. She advice me not to eat and cook too oily, saltish or sweet food. I think I have to come again to learn from her her cooking skills as she learn cooking before ^_^

After dinner I help out with the clearing up before sitting down and relax. It was a fun night in-door as we didn't go out at night. It is quiet and very relaxing. I felt tired too and was not up to go out so it was cool just to stay home ^_^ Besides that, I have to start packing as I'm flying back to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

I feel sad that I'm leaving but I would be coming back to visit again another time and for a longer time. This time i do not have that much time but in future I would have ^_^

Day 2 in Kuching

Today I woke up at 8.45am just as my alarm ring and Merlye came to call me. Haha...We left at 10am plus to pick Poh Yee and Ling up for breakfast. We went for Sarawak laksa which is different from normal laksa. It isn't spicy but it was delicious.

After laksa, we went to buy some souveniors at a shop that sells a lot of things made out of clay. I bought a vase which is RM16 there which is beautuful. I bought 3 small cups in different colour which cost RM3.50 each. Since I'm born in the year of pig, I bought cute pigs to decorate my house ^_^ Merlye on the other hand bought some souveniors for my parents. She is always so sweet and thoughtful. I would like to thank her on my parents behalf.

After our first round of shopping, we head off to the roundabout which has the longest name. There are a lot of roundabouts here and all have a name unlike in Kuala Lumpur. Just before we head there, Merlye took us for ice cream where the ice cream is different from other ice cream. What is the different? It is madeout of pure milk.

We have our ice cream in the car and head off to the roundabout. When we reach there, we went round and round the roundabout looking for the best place to park to take picture with the sign board. We park the car at the side of the road at the Sarawak High Court and ran across 3 lane road to get to the roundabout. Then we make our way through the wet grass to the sign board in the roundabout and took some pictures. Can you imagine how long the name is?

Oh ya...the name of the roundabout is Bulatan Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Abdullah Bin Datuk Bandar Abang Haji Mohammad Kassim. It is written on the sign in 2 lines for it can't fit into one line. After that, we went to the cat museum and right outside the museum we can see the view of Kuching town. It is a beautiful scene. We then head in and look at cats. On our way out, we took a beautiful picture together.

Since it is lunch time, we then head off to have lunch. What did we have? We had something that is not sold in Kuala Lumpur which is belacan noodles. Besides that, we had a plate of rojak, milky red bean, ice kacang and two fruity drink. The belacan noodle taste different but it is not my preference for I'm not a belacan fan.

Once our tummy is full, we went for round 2 shopping. This time we went to a souvenior shop and bought some souveniors. I bought somethings for my cousin while the others got something for themselves. When we went out to the car, a MYVI was blocking our car but we manage to go out and drive out of the parking lot. This is call "Girl Power!"

After being out for so long, we went back to Merlye's house and rest. We look at her soft copy photos and chit chat. It was a fun time. We went down and chit chat with Merlye's in-laws when they came over. I have to say, Merlye's mother-in-law is very motherly. Se prepare a lot of things for us to eat. First, she show us a banana which is triple the normal size of banana which she sterm it and serve us.

Before that, we went out to the balcony and sat as not to disturb baby Brenda who is sleeping. We ate some Sarawak mandarin oranges, a fruit that taste like avocado and the banana which Merlye's mother-in-law sterm. She then serve us Sundrop can orange juice which is not found in West Malaysia. When we are bout full, Merlye's nanny brought us Bak Kut Teh which Merlye's mother-in-law cooked.

I can say merlye's mother-in-law's cooking is delicious. While we were eating, she brought out some organic rice and asked us to eat some with the Bah Kut Teh. Whoa...that is a fantastic high tea and a very delicious one too ^_^ After that we rest a while and chit chat while waiting for the food to digest.

It was bout 8pm where we went out for our round 3 shopping. We went to Green Gallery which is like Living Cabin back in West Malaysia but a higher class Living Cabin. They sell a lot of beautiful things but very pricy. I bought something for my sister there. We were about done when Greoffrey called Merlye to see if we are done shopping. He then asked us to meet him.

We then head off to Happy Valley to meet Greoffrey. Since I was afraid I might go hungry, I ordered pork chop and ice milo. The pork chop was delicious but it was a bit hard. We then chit chat there a while longer before we left. We then send Poh Yee and Ling back to the hotel before we head home. It was another beautiful day. Thank goodness it didn't rain even when dark clouds were looming the sky.

Day 1 in Kuching

I went to Kuching to visit my friend Merlye who is there. She has just given birth a month plus ago and I decided to visit her and also to relax.

I woke up at 6.30am and finish my packing. I have to thank Wee Kiat and Shirley for sending me to the airport. They are so kind. I reach LCCT about 8am and I went to check-in my luggage. There was a long queue to check-in luggage for my flight, AK5204.

It was bout 8.45am before I finish checking in and took my ticket. I then went and bought a newspaper to read while waiting. Then I went to the boarding area to wait for the gate to open.

The gate open at 9.15am sharp and this is my first time walking up the stairs into the plane and not through the tunnel. It is so cool. SInce it was free seating, I choose to sit at the wing area for I like to monitor the wing's movement.

I arrive in Kuching at about 11am and Merlye and her husband, Greoffrey came and pick me up. We then went to pick up her other 2 friends, Poh Yee and Ling and went for lunch. Lunch was good at this cafe. After that, we drop Poh Yee and Ling at The Spring, which is the first shopping mall in Kuching due to open on the 10 January this year.

We then head to home and I saw baby Brenda. She is so cute and small. Her eyes is so big. She was sleeping most of the time though but she is a baby and her main activity is sleep ^_^

Later we went out with their friends Jonathon King and his sister. We went to a hopping mall to get somethings then went off to meet their other friends at this cafe call Toast and Kaya. That cafe is using the same concept as Old Town Kopitiam. I had an ice lemon tea and it taste of bitter tea. I think they ran out of sugar.

After that we head back and I meet Greoffrey's parents. I had a chat with them and it was a pleasant conversation. We talked till it was time for dinner. Then I went with Merlye and Greoffrey to meet up Poh Yee and Ling for dinner at the foodcourt near Crown Plaza and Holiday Inn. The food there is fantastic. We had seafood and I was surprise that it isn't that fishy. The fried oyster omelette was fantastic and it looks different from the ones I usually eat.

After a long day, we call it a day and head home to rest. Tomorrow would be a new day filled with new adventures. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Kuching. So far, Kuching reminds me of my hometown, a peaceful, quiet place where the air is clean and the sky is very blue ^_^
